5G Ready Secure SD-WAN

Time is money. What Ben said all those years ago, is even more true today. The need to keep users securely connected to their apps at all times requires your branch & retail networks to be optimized now more than ever.

Keep Users Connected

Traditional WAN infrastructure worked to connect users to Enterprise applications - including retail PoS - when the majority of branch & retail traffic flowed within the enterprise intranet boundary. However, new cloud services and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications are changing the traffic pattern. Today, the majority of enterprise traffic flows to public clouds and the Internet. This change creates new branch & retail network requirements for application performance, security, and enhanced business continuity.

5G Ready SD-WAN

A primary benefit of SD-WAN is to convert a high throughput backup network (DIA, broadband, etc.) to a primary access onramp to cloud / SaaS applications. As SD-WAN creates a new active / active wireline network topology many SD-WAN customers are leveraging LTE Advanced Pro to keep continuity if one of the primary connections fails. And, with the emergence of gig speed 4G and mGig 5G, customers are considering wireless as a primary access method for SD-WAN. To address these needs Cisco and Verizon have developed and certified Cisco SD-WAN ISRs to support Verizon LTE Advanced Pro today, and provide investment protection to deploy Verizon 5G tomorrow.

SD-WAN Security – 5G SASE

Cisco & Verizon offer leading SD-WAN security with the flexibility to deploy integrated UTM security on Cisco SD-WAN appliances, a separate Cisco Firepower next gen firewall, or Cisco’s Umbrella SIG (Secure Internet Gateway) cloud security service. In 2019 Gartner identified and named a trend of enterprises consolidating network and security functions in the cloud as SASE or Secure Access Service Edge. This “thin branch” with SD-WAN routing functions on premise and security functions in the cloud simplifies SD-WAN security deployment & management and reduces cost.

As Cisco 5G ready ISRs are certified with advanced Verizon Wireless network security features such as Private Network, Private Network Traffic Management (QoS) and Split Data Routing (dual APN) added to the integration of Cisco SD-WAN and Umbrella SIG, Cisco and Verizon uniquely offer customers a path to 5G SASE.

SD-WAN Network security is critical, however device & SIM security are equally important to your 5G SD-WAN security deployment. Cisco’s investments in tamper proof silicon, User ID / Password encryption for admin access, and LTE & GPS geo fencing which can disable the router if it is removed from the geo fenced area coupled with Verizon’s SIM Secure service to ensure the SIM only works with a specified device provides our customers leading cellular router security.
